        Summary

        U.S. stocks were higher today, with the technology sector leading the way. In corporate news, shares of Amazon lagged after the company reported third-quarter earnings and guidance below expectations. Economic news was light today. U.S. Treasury prices declined today as their yields rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 188 points, or less than 1%, for the week.

        Overall market indexes

        The Dow Jones Industrial Average* was up 153 points or 0.6% to 26,958
        The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 12 points or 0.4% to 3,023
        The NASDAQ Composite Index was up up 57 points or 0.7% to 8,243

        Bond markets

        The 30-year Treasury yield closed higher at 2.29% and the 10-year Treasury yield finished higher at 1.80%.

        Commodity markets

        The spot price of gold rose $0.66 to $1,504.66
        And the price of crude oil rose $0.37 to $56.60
